Choosing the Mooney M20K Aircraft by James David
Mooney M20K is part of the Mooney M20 series that Al Mooney created. The series was first introduced in the year 1955 and production lasts until 2008. The production was temporarily halted due to the recession that was felt in the late 2000. The whole series was well accepted into the aviation industry they even gained a good name. The superior quality of the aircraft has enabled them to surely gain a good reputation among flight experts and pilots. Al Mooney was able to have the design for the M20 airplane series from another friend. So, along with his team they are able to come up with the aircraft.
Before the M20K there are a lot of variants that was created. For example the original aircraft, along with the series, the M20 and M20A was almost simultaneously created in 1955 until 1958. It contains wings that are made up of wood with cloth covers. It is able to produce a 150hp up to 180hp using the Lycoming O-360-A1A until A1D engine. There is the M20B that was another great variant. This has made the series to completely switch to all metal design. The M20C was introduced in 1962 is also a variant that has undergone a lot of improvements to meet the growing demands for the aircraft.
As for the M20K the unit was created after the M20J. It was also known as the Moony 231. This uses the Continental TSIO-360-GB. The manufacturer was able to address the problem in the sudden temperature change they used an intercooled engine to eliminate the temperature problems of the aircraft. There are just so many upgrades and the plane unit was able to undergo a lot of improvements. The unit was officially certified in November 16, 1978 and it was equipped with either of the following engine Continental TSIO-360-GB1, -GB3, GB4, LB1, MB1, and MB2.
After the M20K there are a lot of other variants that were continued in producing. Aside from the improvement that was based from a client’s request or suggestion, there are also some that was changed to be able to accommodate more passengers. The unit was usually used for private use there are many individual who has purchase the aircraft for their own use. The controls of the plane are also very simple to understand.
Mooney M20K is one of the best planes during their time. It is also one of the famous aircraft within its class. There are a lot of plane that was created after this particular. The manufacturer is trying to listen with their client’s request as to gain more clients to buy their unit. But the series was able to have a good number of sales that was the main reason why the unit are still in high demands even on 2nd hands.
